The West Suburban Symphony welcomes these exceptional instrumental and vocal soloists to our October 2009 - August 2010 concert series.
JOHN CONCEPCION, tenor, is a sought-after and versatile operatic and concert performer and teacher. He has performed with Lyric Opera of Chicago and other opera companies throughout the country, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras across the Midwest, and with Chicago's Ars Musica chorale. Notable recent appearances include Bach's Mass in B-minor, Handel's Messiah, DuBois' Seven Last Words of Christ, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Mozart's Requiem, Blow's Venus & Adonis, Rameau's Les Indes Galantes, and Rorem's Homer. Currently a full-time chorus member at Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Grant Park Festival Chorus, he also teaches voice in the Theatre Conservatory at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts.
MOE DIXON, guitarist and singer, is one of the top guitar solo artists in the country, specializing in fingerstyle and ragtime guitar. His magical performances are highlighted by masterful guitar playing, powerful vocals and ingenious song writing. He is a familiar name on the festival and club circuit across North America and Canada, as well as at Copper Mountain and Breckenridge ski resort in Colorado. Dixon's poetic song writing is filled with his optimistic vision of life. With a lifestyle that includes days spent skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, motocycling and mountain biking, his inspiration comes from an abundance of life's adventures. His audiences connect with his energy, turning each performance into a celebration.
STACY ECKERT, mezzo-soprano, is an audience favorite with her warm voice and has appeared in such operatic roles as Carmen, Blitzstein's Regina, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Flora in La Traviata and Giuletta in Les contes d'Hoffmann. Also an accomplished concert soloist, Ms. Eckert has been featured with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and with other symphonies across the Midwest.
KEVIN HALL, bass-baritone, has performed and recorded widely, in opera and concert roles, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Grant Park Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, and Music of the Baroque, among others. A critically acclaimed singer, he has a particular love of the art song repertoire of Vaughn Williams, Schubert, and Faure. He returns this season to once again delight West Suburban Symphony audiences. Mr. Hall is a resident of Westmont.
CAROLYN HART, soprano, regularly performs recital, oratorio and orchestral repertoire in the Chicago area and has toured in New York, Paris, Hong Kong, Canada, Great Britain, and Korea. She also performs with the recently formed Chicago New Arts Trio (soprano, flute and piano), and her CD Not Your Usual Lineup features newly commissioned Canadian works for soprano, clarinet and piano. Ms Hart has been frequently broadcast on radio and TV in Canada, Korea and Texas, as well as on WFMT in Chicago. She holds degrees from the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia and is currently Associate Professor and Chair of Voice at Wheaton College.
KIYOSHI HAYASHI, winner of the West Suburban Symphony's 2009-10 high school concerto competition, is a sophomore at Oak Park and River Forest High School. He has studied violin since age 7, and is currently a student of Thomas Wermuth of the Western Springs School of Talent Education. His career goal is to perform as a professional violinist, He is an honors student and enjoys playing sports.
WILLIAM KOEHLER, pianist, has performed chamber music throughout the Midwest, including appearances with the Vermeer, Arianna, and Prague string quartets, with the Craftsbury Chamber Players, and in the Midsummer's Music chamber concert series in Door County, Wisconsin. The winner of many performance competitions, he has also been featured as piano soloist with the symphony orchestras of Houston, St. Louis, Baltimore, Nashville, Long Beach, Tampa, and Oklahoma City as well as with the Denver Chamber Orchestra and the Illinois Chamber Symphony. Currently a professor of piano at Northern Illinois University, he holds performance degrees from The Julliard School and the University of Texas at Austin.
ANN MCMANN, soprano, made her Lyric Opera of Chicago debut in Gary Griffin's new production of The Merry Widow in 2009 and most recently was seen in Ragtime at Drury Lane Oakbrook. She has also appeared locally as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Wheaton Symphony Orchestra and in productions by Light Opera Works and G&S Opera Company. Ms. McMann has toured nationally and appeared on Broadway with Phantom of the Opera and Show Boat. Chicago Tribune music critic John Von Rhein describes her voice as "clear and bright."
JANET MENSEN REYNOLDS, mezzo-soprano, is in her 19th season at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, where she performs in the chorus, with many solos, and takes on a variety of small roles. Each spring, she organizes and sings in "An Evening at the Opera," which is a preview of the Lyric's coming season. Ms Reynolds graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, as an award-winning singer, and has performed with the Knox-Galesburg Symphony and numerous Chicagoland orchestras, including the West Suburban Symphony, the Metropolitan Arts Orchestra, the Tower Chorale, and the Lake Shore Symphony. She maintains a voice studio of 30 students.
